Sharon is a hugely inspiring and supportive individual, able to nurture, constructively challenge and motivate those around her. A skilled leader and experienced influencer with significant commercial experience Sharon brought these skills to bear in her UK and International roles at Microsoft and the BBC, and more recently in her Chairman and Non-Executive roles.

Sharon spent her formative years in Staffordshire and Bedfordshire and started her employment career at Amazon Computers Ltd, a computer hardware and software distributor in the late 1980's. Quickly getting to grips with the evolution of the PC, Sharon became a qualified IBM and Compaq trained saleswoman, and then took responsibility for the Apple dealership within the company. After this experience and, in recognition of her passion and skills in technology and marketing, a theme throughout her career, she was hired in 1992 by Microsoft Corporation as their first Industry Marketing Manager.

This began a 16 year long successful career at Microsoft where Sharon held a number of different marketing and business roles and ultimately became an International General Manager, Microsoft Partner and is one of the very few people to be a recipient of the Microsoft Chairman's Award which she received from Bill Gates in 2004.

Since 1999 Sharon's career has been dominated by interactive TV, online and digital roles, and she must surely be seen as one of the small number of people to really participate in the growth of this industry. In 2000 Sharon became the European Marketing Director for MSN and managed the successful brand transition to the MSN Butterfly and put MSN in the No. 1 spot for Hotmail and Messenger throughout Europe. This success saw her promoted to EMEA Regional Director, in charge of the commercial success of all the MSN markets and then promoted again to manage all International markets for MSN outside the US.

Sharon was given the Bill Gates Chairman's Award for sustainable innovation - creating and implementing a new business model based on search crawler technology and taking this “MSN lite” into all emerging markets. Sharon created mobile pre-pay trials in several countries, managed all JV's and franchises including the MSN China JV and originated the search strategy for the UK which culminated in the acquisition of Multimap UK. Sharon also integrated several other strategic partnerships into the business including the Facebook advertising initiative and managed a significant real estate lease and relocation to Cardinal Place, Victoria, London. In her leadership role Sharon was a key contributor on behalf of Microsoft to the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau), the Marketing Society and was an active member of numerous Government bodies for online privacy, safety and security issues eg: Cyberbullying, NSPCC etc.

In 2008, following her last role as General Manager of the Advertising and Online Division for Microsoft UK, and a member of Microsoft UK Board of Directors, Sharon was approached to join the BBC as Director of Marketing, Communications and Audiences and a member of the main Board of Directors of the BBC. Sharon was also Non-Exec Director on the BBC Worldwide Board, and Non-Exec Director of both Freesat and Digital UK.

In her executive role Sharon was responsible for the strategic global direction of the BBC brand portfolio and in a period of significant transition for the organisation led all internal and external communications, re-organised the communications and marketing team's and oversaw significant cost reductions both in staff and budget. Sharon also introduced balanced scorecards for measurement and assessment for the first time into the BBC that has since seen rapid adoption throughout the organisation. It is also worth noting some significant creative accolades signifying excellence of work during this time including a BAFTA for Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 advertising, a BAFTA for African World Cup 2010 advertising and a Cannes Lion for History of the World in 100 Objects in 2011.

Since leaving the BBC in June 2011 Sharon has run a portfolio career for herself and is Non-Executive Chairman of Dot Net Solutions Ltd, Microsoft UK's Partner of the Year, 2014. She is also a Non-Executive Director of ITE Plc, Restore Plc and Market Tech Holdings Ltd and was previously Chairman of Havas EHS, UK.
